Foreigner

Origins and Migrations

Foreigner was created during the Terra Nova residency, under the direction of Rosanna Gamson. This project explores both biographical and historical migrations and their subsequent impact on identity. Through storytelling and dance, Foreigner draws attention to the unique stories of individuals before they are labeled as « foreigners. »

Questioning Identity and Belonging

By questioning the concepts of foreignness and identity, this piece narrates both the dancer’s family background and intertwines the history of European societies and their migration during the First and Second World Wars, as well as the forced displacement of Africans during the transatlantic slave trade.

A Choreographic Exploration of Memory

Through movement and narrative, Foreigner reveals the deep imprints of migration on identity, bridging past and present in a powerful exploration of belonging.
Choreographed by Cecilia Slongo, interpreted by Cecilia Slongo and Tulani Weeks.
