California State Grant
The Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) is dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural heritage through mentorship and community engagement. As part of this mission, ACTA has awarded a California State Grant to support the mentorship of Cecilia Slongo by Katiuska Lebental in Afro-Cuban folkloric dance.
Through this mentorship, Cecilia deepens her understanding of the dances of the Orishas—divine spirits central to the Yoruba tradition. This process not only refines her dance technique but also expands her cultural awareness, allowing her to explore the evolution of Yoruba heritage in Cuba. Under Katiuska’s guidance, Cecilia connects with the historical and spiritual roots of Afro-Cuban dance, strengthening her artistic expression and knowledge.
ACTA plays a crucial role in fostering cultural exchange and collaboration. By supporting traditional arts and practitioners, ACTA builds bridges between communities, offering valuable resources and opportunities for growth.
